The Momentum Newsletter and Events are back in action after a wonderful summer break. Events October is Fair Trade Month! Halloween at Momentum Sunday, October 31st, 2-5pm  Each Halloween Boulder's Pearl Street is invaded by 2,000 trick-or-treating ghosts, goblins and fairies, for the one and only Munchkin Masquerade. We dare you to make Momentum one of your trick-or-treating destinations.
 News One more reason to give Fair Trade Chocolate this Halloween: Illegal child labor is a major problem on cocoa farms in West Africa, especially in the Ivory Coast which supplies 40% of the world's cocoa. USAID estimated that 284,000 children work in abusive child labor conditions. There is a solution -- Fair Trade Certified Chocolate -- and you have the rare opportunity to ask Hersheys, the largest chocolate company in the US, to buy Fair Trade cocoa. Hershey recently released its first-ever Corporate Social Responsibility Report, in which it failed to outline a credible plan for ensuring that its supply chains aren't tainted with forced labor, human trafficking, and abusive child labor, all notorious problems for companies that source their cocoa from the Ivory Coast. Hershey has asked the public to provide feedback on the report through an online survey. This is a great opportunity to tell Hershey directly that they need to take action on child labor. She is an exciting addition to the ever growing Fair Trade movement and the Momentum family.  4 Mile Canyon Fire Donation More than 6 weeks ago now, our community was devastated by one of Colorado's worst wildfires. In an effort to help those in need, Momentum came up with a fun way to help. We offered customers the option of forgoing a shopping bag in exchange for a donation made to the Foothills United Way. Momentum's pledge was to match whatever was raised. With your help, we donated $250 to the 4 Mile Canyon Fire Relief effort. Our hearts go out to all who are affected by this fire. |
